Summer 1
Our Learning in Summer 1
This half term in Reception, our overarching theme is 'Our Universe' and our topic is 'Our World'. We have loved this topic so far we started off by exploring the book 'My Friend Earth' by Patricia Maclachlan. We currently been looking at a non-fiction text about David Attenborough which has inspired a lot of our learning in the continuous provision. We have been discovering hot and cold climates in the sand and water area and learning about the different continents and countries in our KUW lessons. We love the continent song- have a little listen if you like!

We will also be exploring plastic and rubbish pollution through our text 'Where is the Starfish?' this explores how the oceans are becoming full of rubbish. In and around school we having been doing our best to encourage recycling.
In Maths, we have been looking at doubling and halving. We have a great understanding that for a double to be a double it must be the same number added to itself!
In PSE, we have learnt how to keep our bodies healthy and strong. We have sorted food into healthy and unhealthy foods, learnt about oral health and how to keep our teeth clean and learnt about the effects of exercise on the body.
We have also been loving our brand new outdoor provision. The all terrain bike track is helping to develop our gross motor and coordination skills. We have also enjoyed performing songs using our voices and musical instruments on the stage and we have treated our teachers to some lovely delights in the texture kitchen!
